I love this bread, Mom used to make it for us all the time. No yeast either so you can have it in a hurry.

This is a great bread to prepare for dinner on a weeknight because it does not have to rise. The buttermilk and baking soda give the oomph needed for this bread to rise in the oven. Ina Garten made this bread (or very similar) the other day on Barefoot Contessa, I loved it then but didn't bother to get the recipe. Now I have it. This is a recipe from my childhood.
